KGB Control of Comintern Agents
The Comintern was an organization that reflected Marxist-Leninist strategy and tactics almost perfectly. To outsiders, the Comintern appeared to be an international grouping of communist parties, striving together for the common good, assisting the proletariat in spreading the glories of Marxism-Leninism across the globe. A variety of third world, second world, colonial, postcolonial, and other oppressed peoples communist parties were represented in the Comintern. From the Comintern headquarters in Moscow came ringing calls to solidarity with the proletariat.
One of the best indications of the total control that the KGB applied to Comintern agents is their methodology when foreign agents visited Moscow.
In reality, however, the Comintern was just like every other Soviet-controlled organization. The foreign members of the Comintern were subjected to Soviet discipline. A visit to Moscow for a Comintern meeting, while surely a treat for an African wannabe Stalin, since all expenses were paid, could also be an extremely harrowing experience. More than once, Comintern delegates from foreign countries were roused from sleep. They responded to the fabled âknock on the door at midnight.â KGB goons took them from their cozy foreignersâ hotel, and they were never seen again.
Especially after Stalin was in power, suspicions, internal strife, and accusations of betrayal stalked every foreign Comintern agent.
Ruth Fisher, a German agent, arrived in Moscow in 1925 for consultations with the ECCI chairman, Osip Piatinitsky. Installed in the KGBâs favorite hotel cum prison, the Lux, near the Kremlin, Fischerâs passport was confiscated by Piatinitsky upon arrival.
The mastermind of the KGBâs covert influence operations against America, trusted with millions of communist dollars for use in his front companies, not even Muenzenberg was trusted to keep his own passport when he visited Moscow. Luckily for him, his network of old Bolsheviks helped him secure his permission to leave.
Hundreds of other foreign Comintern members were not as connected or energetic as the covert influence mastermind. Once in the Soviet Union, they lost free will and liberty. Their small lives were swept into the maw of the great humanity-loving, but human-hating communist machine. Their corpses, lumps of rotting materialistic flesh, their souls casually discarded in the atheist ether, were tossed into trenches and covered in lime to speed decomposition. Absolute control of body, mind, and spirit was required by the KGB. And this control was achieved in nearly every instance.
